CONGLETON Athletic booked their place in the AJ Cooke Trophy final after an extra-time win over Bentley on Saturday.

Congleton had taken an early lead and looked to be going through in normal time before The Motormen netted an equaliser two minutes from the end.

Bentley went ahead in extra-time only for Congleton to reply almost immediately. But stamina finally told with Congleton netting twice more to earn a 4-2 victory.

Rob Negus netted twice for Congleton with Eddie Pollard and Ian Slinger also on target. Pete Griffiths scored both Bentley's goals.

Congleton now face double-chasing Alsager Faculty in the final at the Cumberland Arena this Saturday.

In the league, Winnington Avenue won their derby against their second string 4-0.

Ben Johns, Chris White, Dominic Johns and Peter Riley shared the goals.

Due to a lack of support from their players, the management of Winsford IPC have deemed it necessary to withdraw from the league. The revised table appears in How They Stand on page 80.
