A series of fine performances at the Warrior Keele International Cup demonstrated the strength of the Chester FC Academy.

Six teams represented the club at the annual festival, which attracts hundreds of teams and is regarded as the premier international football tournament in the UK.

Clubs from the Premier League, Football League and from as far afield as Japan, Kenya and the USA were among those taking part.

Chester won two trophies with the Under 11s and the Youth team beating off strong competition to win their respective classes.

There was a second place finish for the Under 16s along with some promising performances from the Under 10s, Under 14s and the Colts.

Blues boss Steve Burr was an interested spectator at the tournament as he showed his support for the club's youngsters.

Chester FC Youth

Calum McIntyre’s side defeated Airbus UK Broughton, Elite ESAF, Abbey Hey and Stone Dominoes in the group stages.

Chester drew 0-0 with full-time college outfit Hyde FC in the semi-finals but won 4-2 on penalties, setting up a final with Newcastle-under-Lyme College.

Calum Woods, Clarke Thorley and Ben Greenop netted in a 3-0 win to clinch the cup.

McIntyre said: "To have won this competition is a tremendous achievement.

"This is a new squad of players and we have had a really impressive pre0season. There's real potential here and we've shown how strong we can be.

"To beat plenty of full time opposition with a depleted squad is a testament to how strong our squad is.

"We've had some great performances and we can't wait for the season to start now."

Star men were midfielder Mikey Barrow, who netted six times in six games, and 16-year-old Kieran Evans.

Chester FC Under 11s.

Nick Jones’ side reached the finals stages after topping a tough group containing Shrewsbury Town, Bangor City, Gap Connah’s Quay and Kenyan team St Christopher’s.

Chester defeated Football League club Derby County on penalties in the semi-finals after a 1-1 draw.

That set up a final with Gap Connah’s Quay and the young Blues held their nerve to win on penalties after the game had ended goalless.

Chester FC Under 16s

Airbus UK Broughton, Football League side Walsall and the Plymouth-based Academy Development Centre were swept aside as the Blues went through the qualifiers without conceding a goal.

Chester met another Football League outfit in the final and gave an excellent account of themselves before going down 2-0 to Port Vale.

Owen Ainscough, Jake Jones, Conor Rowbottom and James Jones all impressed and were among the goals.
