With four wins from the past five meetings, form will be on Woking's side for Saturday's visit to Chester FC (3pm).

The Cards held the upper hand over Chester City too, winning four, drawing two and losing two of the eight games against them.

But there have been a few notable wins for the Blues along the way, including a league double during the title-winning 2003-04 campaign.

Ahead of this weekend's clash at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium, The Chronicle looks back at some of the past encounters between the two.

Chester City 0 Woking 2 (August 18, 2001)

On the opening afternoon of the 2001-02 season, just 745 fans turned up to watch Woking beat a woeful Chester team with ease.

Gordon Hill's side fell behind inside the first minute with Warren Haughton firing past Wayne Brown. Chester mustered little in response with Darren Wright as a lone striker and Sam Hill - the manager's son - part of an ineffectual midfield behind him.

Barry Moore doubled Woking's lead with a close range finish from Steve West's knock-down to complete a comfortable win for the visitors.

Chester City 2 Woking 1 (October 11, 2003)

The Blues recorded a first win against Woking in front of 2,085 supporters, making a blistering start to the game before fading late on.

Michael Twiss caused the Cards huge problems and he helped create the opening goal for Ben Davies, who lashed a shot into the top corner for a 1-0 lead at the break.

Woking improved in the second-half but fell further behind against the run of play when Clare found Twiss and the attacking midfielder fired past keeper Ashley Bayes.

Mark Wright's team tired towards the end and substitute Raphael Nade rifled an effort past Ian McCaldson to cut the lead but the Blues clung on for the three points.

Woking 1 Chester City 2 (February 28, 2004)

Michael Twiss picked up the Conference Goal of the Season award for his stunning late strike to seal victory for Mark Wright's side at Kingfield live on Sky Sports.

The ex-Manchester United trainee came off the bench to win the game, picking up the ball in midfield, surging forward and rocketing a shot past the helpless Ashley Bayes.

Woking had taken the lead 55 seconds into the game when the dangerous Amos Foweya got the better of Phil Bolland and found Steve Ferguson, who beat Iain Turner in the Chester goal.

It was the introduction of Twiss in the second-half that turned the game and the Blues equalised on 78 minutes when Danny Collins headed home a Kevin McIntyre corner.

With the contest on a knife-edge, Twiss produced a moment of magic to secure a crucial three points for the eventual champions.

Chester FC 0 Woking 2 (August 17, 2013)

Two second-half goals condemned the Blues to a third straight defeat against the 10-man Cards in a difficult start to the season for Neil Young's side.

There were chances for Craig Lindfield and Gareth Seddon in the first-half and Chester looked to have been given a helping hand on the stroke of the interval when Woking midfielder Josh Payne was shown a red card.

Seddon hit the post following the restart but the Blues then fell behind when Gavin Williams beat John Danby from 25 yards with a humdinger of a strike.

And the visitors went 2-0 up four minutes later when Joe McNerney headed home from close range to wrap up the points.

Jamie Menagh scored the decisive goal as Chester ground out a valuable victory to make it two wins from two under new manager Steve Burr.

In an even game, the Blues went ahead in the 29th minute when a long pass found Menagh and the winger used his pace to burst into the box and drill a shot past Mason Springthorpe.

Jamie Reed wasted an excellent chance to double the advantage before half-time and Chester continued to impress after the break with man of the match Springthorpe keeping Woking in the contest.

The Cards put the Blues under pressure late on but John Danby kept them out as Burr continued a perfect start in his new role.
