Who's playing?

Chester FC v Woking – Vanarama National League.

When and where?

Saturday, November 21 (3pm) at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium.

What has Steve Burr had to say about it?

“Our record at home this season has been good and that’s largely down to the following we get from the fans here, and to be fair on the road too because we had excellent support again at Boreham Wood," said the Blues boss.

“I know how much the lads love playing at home and I love it too because we’ve got a good pitch and when the fans get behind us there’s a terrific atmosphere and there’s no place better.

"Woking are having a bad run in terms of results so we have got to make sure we take advantage of that.”

Any team news?

Striker Jamie McDonagh, on loan from Sheffield United, is back in contention for the Blues having missed the games with Kidderminster Harriers and Boreham Wood having been selected for the Northern Ireland under-21s squad for the UEFA European U21 Championship qualifiers against France and Ukraine.

Having finished last season in a hugely creditable seventh place, just three points off the play-off places, hopes were high for Garry Hill's Cards side coming in to this season.

Things looked rosy early on with the Surrey side one of the National League's pacesetters in the opening month, a position buoyed by a 5-2 hammering of 10-man Chester back in August. Hill's side had won four on the bounce, despite having to contend with the absence of prolific striker Scott Rendell and defender Ismail Yakubu for the season due to respective knee injuries.

Since then have nosedived on the pitch and plummeted down the league table and currently sit in 17. The Cards are on a wretched run of form that has seen them pick up just one win in 10 games, over bottom-of-the-table FC Halifax Town, a sequence which has included seven losses.

“As a club, as a team and I as manager – we are all too aware that we are in for a hard winter and there's no doubt about it,” said Hill after their last outing, a 5-2 thrashing at home to Macclesfield Town.

“We just have to roll up our sleeves and keep battling while hoping we get a bit of luck to turn the tide.

"My assistant Steve Thompson and I have had some great times in our five years, but this has to be the toughest.

"I can promise you, however, that whatever the problems with personnel or club finances, I will keep leading the fight to get it right."

What happened the last time the two sides met?

Ben Heneghan saw red inside 25 minutes when the two sides faced off at the Laithwaite Community Stadium on a scorching hot afternoon on August 24, setting the tone for a miserable afternoon for Chester as they were roundly trounced 5-2 by the Cards.

A John Goddard penalty and goals from Kadell Daniel, Dan Holman, Joey Jones and Ben Pattie secured the three points for Woking against the Blues, who had Michael Kay and John Rooney on target.

The defeat brought an end to the Blues unbeaten start to the season but Kay's goal did mark a Chester FC milestone as the defender notched the club's 500 goal in all competitions since its reformation in 2010.
