Back-to-back home games give Chester FC  a good chance to rebuild momentum, but in-form Lincoln City pose a stern challenge tonight (7.45pm).

Just one win from 10 matches in all competitions has resulted in the Blues dropping into the bottom eight of the Vanarama Conference, although there remains a 10-point cushion between them and the relegation places.

Lincoln on the other hand have taken 22 points from a possible 30 in the league, leaving them two points outside the play-offs. That run has included wins over leaders Barnet and promotion hopefuls Grimsby Town.

Steve Burr took encouragement from his team's performance in the goalless draw with Southport at the weekend and will hope for further improvement as this month's new additions continue to settle in.

Brad Abbott, Josh Green, Ryan Higgins and the returning Matty Hughes all featured at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.

Burr still wants to bring in at least one more signing, a targetman to lead the line, and has been working on a possible deal, although tonight could come too soon.

Kinsgley James will not be involved as he begins a three-match ban after the club did not appeal his red card for pushing Southport centre forward Richard Brodie.

Craig Hobson, who missed the weekend's game with a sore toe, has recovered and could replace Tom Peers up front.

Burr said: "They are all difficult games but it was pleasing for me that we managed to get lads in.

"I thought Matty Hughes looked lively on Saturday. We know what Matty's about and I'm pleased we've got him to the end of the season.

"The one thing for us at Southport was that looking at the bench it was a lot stronger and that was important.

"Kingsley's suspended because he ran in and that's classed as violent conduct. There wasn't much in it but you can't do it.

"Hobby looks like he will be okay and that's good because he gives us a bit more strength up top. We were reasonably happy with him Tom at the weekend but he's had a full game and I think he's still making the step up but we're pleased with how he's coming on."

Lincoln replaced manager Gary Simpson with Chris Moyses in November and the former youth team coach, who has been on the club's board since 2012, has overseen an impressive turnaround on the pitch.

Aldershot were brushed aside 3-0 at Sincil Bank on Saturday with goals from Charlee Adams, Ben Tomlinson and Arnaud Mendy.

Tomlinson now has 10 league goals this season and will be the main danges for the Imps, although captain Alan Power chips in from midfield and ex-Chester City youngster Sean Newton can be a threat from set pieces.

Goalkeeping coach David Preece told the Lincolnshire Echo he was confident the team can keep their good run alive and break into the top five.

"We are not looking at going to places and just getting a point,” said Preece.

"The way we set up the team and the way we want to start games is not to settle for just one point.

"No matter who we come up against, we worry about ourselves more than the opposition. Yes we take into account their strengths, but we like to exploit their weaknesses more than worry what they might do to us."

Last season both matches between the clubs ended all square, Lincoln scoring a late equaliser to snatch a 3-3 draw at the Swansway Chester Stadium in December 2013 and the Blues coming from behind to finish 1-1 in the return fixture in February .
