Chester FC boss Steve Burr has some welcome selection headaches for Saturday's home game with Kidderminster Harriers, the club he managed for four years.

His mid-season rebuild continued this week with the arrivals of George Thomson and Oliver McBurnie, taking the total of transfer window arrivals to nine.

Four of them featured in the goalless draw at Southport last weekend, and Thomson, an attacking midfielder who has scored 22 goals this season for Kings Lynn Town, and McBurnie, a tall centre forward on a month's loan from Bradford City, could come straight in.

Chester are missing Kingsley James and Ibou Touray through suspension and have a doubt over Josh Green so a recall for John Rooney in midfield seems likely.

Craig Hobson has recovered from a toe problem and will come back into the squad to replace Tom Peers, who has moved to Marine on loan.

Excluding the goalkeeper and the back four, the manager has a number of options available to him as he looks to strike the right blend to deliver a first home win since December 2.

Burr said: "It's a good position to be in. I think it was the first time in a while at Southport we were looking behind us at the bench knowing that we've got options to stick on and we'll use those options without any hesitation knowing they can go on and make an impact and I don't think we've had too much of that over the season.

"We're in a position now where we feel that we've strengthened things and it's down to the players now that we've brought in. They have to go and earn the right to play.

"There's good competition there now and hopefully one or two of the lads who've been with us from day one will be looking at it and going 'great, good signings but I need to up my own game'."

Kidderminster sacked Burr just over 12 months ago but he was soon back in work at Chester and he is relishing coming up against his old club and Gary Whild, his friend and former assistant now in charge at Aggborough.

"Kiddy are coming in good form, as they have been all season, so we know we'll be in for a tough game," said Burr. "I looking forward now, we've freshened things up and I'm looking forward to having a good run between now and the end of the season."

Kidderminster, who won 1-0 at Aldershot on Tuesday for a fourth straight away win, will be missing injured defender Josh Gowling but are otherwise at full strength. Danny Wright, who had been a target for Chester, made his debut midweek after joining from Gateshead and will keep his place.

Whild wants to get one over on his old boss but insists there's no rivalry between the pair.

"We had a great relationship when we were both here and we’ve continued that since he left - I speak to him quite regularly," said Whild.“We had some good times here but there’s no rivalry, other than we’ll both be desperate to win on the day - but that goes without saying anyway.

“Steve has brought players in, they’ve improved over the season and it’s potentially a massive club - there’s a lot of positive stuff going on there.”
