Chester FC manager Steve Burr wants his team to put a smile back on supporters' faces following an Easter best forgotten.

Dover Athletic visit the Swansway Chester Stadium on Saturday (3pm) to take on a Blues squad licking its wounds after three straight defeats, shipping 12 goals in the process.

Chester have now dropped to 15th in the Vanarama Conference and the lousy performances in the past month or so have taken the gloss off what has, overall, been an encouraging season.

There are three games remaining and Burr accepts his players cannot expect the fans to stick with them forever.

Burr said: "It's massively important we bounce back. Our support on Monday for the Forest Green game was unbelievable and so is the way the keep supporting us and getting behind us.

"We're in a poor run of form at the minute but the support from the terraces was fantastic and we need to give them that back in these last three games.

"It's been really disappointing. I've said all season we'll have ups and downs but I don't want the season just to fizzle out because our fans don't deserve that."

Ending the winless run will be easier said than done because Dover are one of the division's form teams.

Chris Kinnear's side took a while to adjust following promotion from the Conference South but have made excellent progress through the season.

Six wins from eight games has seen them climb to ninth and give themselves an outside chance of sneaking into the play-offs.

Burr said: "They've had a great season and they've still got a chance of sneaking into the play-offs so they are coming to play for something

"We've got to play for our pride and give the fans something to cheer about from now until the end of the season."

Chester will be without Matty Brown, who's unlikely to play again this season after damaging ankle ligaments in the loss to Forest Green Rovers, and George Thomson, who has resumed light training.

Sean McConville missed the next two games through suspension having reached 10 bookings for the season.

Peter Winn has been recalled from a loan spell at Kings Lynn Town and his return gives the manager the option of switching to a 4-4-2 and pairing Matty Hughes with Oliver McBurnie up front.

Burr has slight doubts over Craig Mahon and Kingsley James but hopes the pair will be able to feature but he's less optimistic about Michael Kay's chances.

"We'll assess Michael, he's had eight stitches in his head, but it's looking like he'll probably miss out," said Burr.

Two second half goals condemned the Blues side to a 2-0 defeat at the Crabble Athletic Ground when the teams met in October.
