Four games unbeaten without conceding has left Chester FC boss Jon McCarthy with a spring in his step.

The Blues have overcome their tough start to the season to show some solid form in recent weeks and offer up plenty of reasons to be cheerful for the rest of the campaign.

This weekend will pose a serious threat to their unbeaten run as Dover Athletic make the long trip to the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium for a Saturday date with the Blues.

Dover, under the stewardship of the hugely experienced Chris Kinnear, lie ninth in the table but have registered four wins from their last five games, including successes over Forest Green Rovers and Lincoln City, and McCarthy is wary of the threat they pose.

"They are strong, maybe not as strong as last year as they have had a lot of changes," said the Blues boss.

"They are another team who is up there who will be a threat to our recent run of good form.

"They are out on a limb down there but able to attract some good players at our level. They are starting to show good form and it is a good test for us and that is what we want."

There are few managers who know non-league football's top tier like Kinnear and McCarthy has the utmost respect for the Dover boss but says there is plenty about the Blues squad that should worry the Whites this weekend.

"I have so much respect for him, the teams he puts out and the way he conducts himself," said McCarthy.

"I won't be taking him for granted. He has that experience, know-how and has a lot of good players.

"We have an opportunity to pick up some points over the next few games.

"I think they will be wary of us, though. I think of lot of teams will be and so they should be."
