Steve Burr has taken a significant step towards completing his squad for the 2014-15 season.

Having brought in centre- back Matty Brown at the end of last week, he snapped up winger Peter Winn and defender John Disney on Wednesday afternoon.

And out-of-contract trio Craig Hobson, Craig Mahon and Jamie Menagh have agreed new deals.

Burr has now brought in nine new signings since the end of last term but further arrivals are expected before pre-season training begins on Monday, July 7.

Attacking fullback Disney, 22, joins from Conference North outfit Hednesford Town with the two clubs now to negotiating a compensation package.

Burr believes Disney has the attributes required to succeed in the Conference Premier.

“John is a player who I believe has the right requisites to make the step up this season,” said the manager.

“He is a player I know a lot about and he is hungry to prove himself at a higher level.”

The two clubs are currently in discussions over a compensation package.

Winn, 25, arrives from rivals Macclesfield Town and his arrival points to width being a top priority for Burr, with wingers Wayne Riley and Sean McConville arriving and Mahon and Menagh signed up.

Burr said: “Jamie and Craig are both young talents who excite the crowd when they play and that is what we want to be about next season.

“They are both able to fit into our framework for daytime training and I’m delighted to have them on board.”

Hardworking forward Hobson, 26, made it five players signing on for the new campaign on  a busy day at the Swansway Chester Stadium.

Hobson joined the Blues towards the end of last season from Conference North side Guiseley.

He scored twice in nine games as Chester failed to escape the relegation places, only to be given a reprieve from the drop due to Hereford United’s financial woes.

Burr believes there is more to come from the ex-Stockport County man.

“Craig is big, strong and knows what is needed at this level,” said the manager.

“We saw him briefly last season and this time around with more training and working together, he is another key signing for us.”

Hobson said: “Getting the reprieve from relegation last season is something the club can build on and with the squad that Steve has put together, it’s a very exciting time for Chester FC.

“As a striker, I want to come back and score goals and be part of a winning team.”
