Velodrome awaits

A TRIP to one of non-league football’s most eye-catching grounds awaits Chester FC after they were drawn away to Newcastle Town in the Evo-Stik League Challenge Cup.

The second-round tie will take place on Tuesday, November 2 at the 4,000-capacity Lyme Valley Stadium (7.45pm) – a ground which is located in a large parkland area and has a velodrome running around the pitch that is used for track cycling.

The Blues set up the clash by beating Newcastle’s First Division South rivals Rushall Olympic 3-1.

Before last Wednesday’s game, Chester officials – at the suggestion of manager Neil Young – presented Rushall with a £100 cheque in aid of their injured striker Craig Bannister, who earlier this month suffered a horrific broken leg.
