Pre-season continued for the Blues squad on Tuesday with a five kilometre run and a gruelling session involving sprints, burpees and tyre flips.

Delamere Outdoor Fitness invited the club down to Delamere Forest for the outdoor training session.

After pre-season began on Monday with fitness testing at the club's new base at the headquarters of main sponsor MBNA, the players faced a punishing woodland workout on day two.

After running for five kilometres through the forest, the squad was introduced to instructor Jo Bridge who led them through agility drills and strength and conditioning exercises.

Manager Steve Burr explained the thinking behind the session was to introduce some variation into the pre-season programme and help the squad to gel.

He was impressed with both the quality of the session and the attitude of his players.

Burr said: "It's a source that's come through Jon McCarthy and it's something a bit different for the lads.

"It's something we'll visit during the season, it's good the team spirit this sort of thing.

"I know it's difficult but the lads are putting it in and they are sort of enjoying it in a strange way."

In addition to the players signed up for next season, the session involved a number of trialists who are hoping to impress the manager.

Burr plans to give those trialists a chance to stake a claim for a contract when the Blues travel to Marine for their opening pre-season fixture on Saturday (3pm).
