Back-to-back home games present Chester FC with an ideal chance to end the first half of the season on a high and move up the National League table, according to manager Steve Burr.

Woking are the visitors on Saturday (3pm) before the Blues welcome Dover Athletic on Tuesday (7.45pm) with both representing realistic chances of adding to an impressive home record.

Burr has been encouraged at a run of one defeat in five league games and the 55-year-old, celebrating 15 years in management this week, reckons the increased competition for places has been a factor in that form.

He said: "We’re getting there and our performance in the game with Kidderminster was good. On Saturday at Boreham Wood conditions were difficult but I really feel that was a couple of points dropped. Both teams didn’t really do enough on the day to get the win and I’m pleased we still got something from the game.

"With these two home games we’ve got coming up now, we’ve got a very good opportunity. Our record at home this season has been good and that’s largely down to the following we get from the fans here, and to be fair on the road too because we had excellent support again at Boreham Wood.

"I know how much the lads love playing at home and I love it too because we’ve got a good pitch and when the fans get behind us there’s a terrific atmosphere and there’s no place better.

"Woking are having a bad run in terms of results so we have got to make sure we take advantage of that and we know Dover will be difficult because we had a tough game with them down there.

"But it’s nice for us to have our lads back to how I know they can be and I’ve stressed to them this week that now we have got cover in the squad for every position.

"I’m here to get results and do the best I can for the football club and I want the players to do well but it’s down to them to do that and keep performing well on the pitch because there’s competition across the park."

Luke George (Achilles) has a minor knock but the midfielder is expected to be fit for the weekend and Burr has no other fitness concerns.

"We’ve got one or two bumps and bruises as you do but we’ve looked sharp in training and we’ll be in again on Thursday to get ready for Woking," said Burr.
