Chester FC boss Steve Burr says Tuesday's draw with Dover Athletic was a 'good point' but feels his team's lack of care in possession is making life difficult for them.

The Blues kept up a respectable record against the National League's leading pack with a 1-1 draw against the fourth-placed visitors as Ross Hannah seconds before half-time cancelled out Ricky Miller's sensational opener.

Dover grew stronger as the game wore on with swirling wind and rain making conditions tough as Chester found themselves pinned back but a dogged defensive effort kept the visitors out.

Burr said: "The performance in the Kidderminster game was what I expect, we didn't get that in the last home game which was really disappointing.

"I was looking to hopefully get maximum points from these two games but I knew Tuesday night would be really tough.

"The conditions were atrocious for the lads and in the second-half it was very difficult to get out of the bottom end but we showed a lot of character where we defended well when we had to and against Dover, with the way they've been going this season, it was a good point for us.

"Dover's goal was really good but apart from one shot before that, I think that was the only two efforts they had really in the first-half and they are a team that have scored a lot of goals this season.

"I was pleased with the response to get in at half-time level and I think we deserved to be level.

"I felt in the second-half, and I know how bad the conditions were, sometimes for us that final ball at the minute is just not good enough and we're not giving ourselves much of a chance by giving it away easily.

"I thought it was one of those where maybe we could hit them on the break in the second-half but that final ball just let us down."

Along with an encouraging debut from Alex Whitmore, who joined on loan from Burnley earlier that afternoon , a further positive was another goal for in-form striker Ross Hannah, who has scored five in the last five league games and now has nine for the season.

"He's on a run and obviously if that continues from now until the end of the season he's looking at 20," said Burr.

"That's what we want because he's our frontman but I must say the effort and commitment we got from the lads with our backs against the wall was very good."
