STEVE Ashton has spelled out exactly why Michael Aspin is no longer part of Neil Young’s plans.

Aspin was transfer-listed earlier in the summer after refusing the offer of a new deal. But unlike Mark Connolly – the other contracted player in the Blues squad up for sale – the right-back has not seen a minute of action in pre-season.

That has led to some fans calling for Aspin’s recall – but there is little chance of that happening.

Ashton, Chester FC’s new director of football, said: “Neil knows Michael has the undoubted ability, but unfortunately Michael has not shown up for training and this has had an impact on the other players who are trying to get themselves fit for the start of the season.

“The Southport game was the first time Neil, Gary Jones and the other members of the staff had seen Michael.

“We offered him a new contract but – like some other players – we could not meet his demands.

“But as he is under 24 we exercised our option on him and offered him a small increase which we feel is appropriate for the club.”

Connolly is also on his way out of the Exacta Stadium, although he reminded Blues boss Young of his ability when scoring the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 victory at West Cheshire League side Heswall.

Bala Town are believed to be leading the chase for the midfielder.
