Chester FC entertain Aldershot Town this evening (7.45pm) with manager Steve Burr and his team searching for a pressure-relieving three points.

Since the home win over basement side Kidderminster Harriers back in November, the Blues have taken 12 points from 15 league games.

Seven defeat, six draws and two victories against third-bottom Torquay United and fourth-bottom Altrincham has seen them slide towards the National League drop zone.

However, Chester's fate remains in their own hands and a win tonight could take them eight points clear of the bottom four with 10 games remaining.

Burr has no illusions about the importance of this evening's match, particularly after squandering a winning position in the 1-1 draw with Bromley on Saturday.

He said: "The sooner we get to 50 points the better. I think around about that or just a bit under should be enough and as soon as we get to that sort of mark I'm sure we'll be in a safe position.

"I do look at league tables because you've got to know what's going on. We've been on a disappointing run there's no question about that.

"We would like to strengthen if we could but we're not in a position to do that at the minute and we understand that so it's about getting the best out of these boys here.

"It's like all games and Saturday was a big game and a must-win game and now we go into Tuesday with another must-win game.

"It doesn't get easier but that's what you're in the game for and we'll get the boys up for Tuesday and go again."

Chester went down 3-1 at Aldershot in January with goals from Sean McGinty, Alfie Pavey and Jim Stevenson cancelling out John Rooney's consolation.

That signalled the start of a three-game winning streak for the Shots, but Barry Smith's side have won once in four and the manager was unimpressed with his side's performance in a 2-0 defeat at play-off chasing Lincoln City at the weekend.

For the Blues tonight represents another realistic chance of victory and one Burr and his players will be desperate to take.
