Chester FC have added former Liverpool FC youngster Will Marsh to their ranks ahead of Saturday's trip to Tranmere Rovers.

Marsh, 20, had been training with the club for the past month having left Anfield in the summer and will be in contention for a place in the squad for the clash at Prenton Park provided the necessary paperwork can be finalised in time with the FA.

The Crewe-born attacker, who can play as either an advanced midfielder or a striker, arrived at the Anfield academy as a 14-year-old from Wrexham and progressed through the ranks to become a regular at under-21 level and was invited to train with the first team on a number of occasions.

Marsh spent a month on loan at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday last season but failed to make an appearance for the Owls and was released by Liverpool at the end of the campaign.

Blues boss Jon McCarthy said: "I'm delighted to add Will to the squad. He has shown his desire and commitment to play for Chester FC by attending training sessions with us for the past month.

"He has impressed everybody with his excellent technical ability and game understanding. It is important to me that he has earned the respect of the other players and been accepted by them.

"There is still some hard work to be done to realise his potential but he offers something different and we are excited to have the chance to work with him. I would like to thank the board for their support in making this addition to the squad."
