Chester FC have signed Wigan Athletic winger Danny O'Brien on a month-long loan.

The 19-year-old former England under-17 international was on loan at Wrexham earlier this season and made four appearances during his time at the Racecourse.

O'Brien, who is likely to be available for this weekend's trip to Torquay United, arrived at the DW Stadium in 2015 having spent his formative footballing years at Aston Villa.

The pacy winger has netted four times in six starts for the Latics' development squad this season and Blues boss Steve Burr has wasted no time in making his move following the opening of the emergency loan window.

Chester assistant boss Jon McCarthy had hinted at a loan swoop following the FA Trophy defeat by FC Halifax Town on Wednesday night, saying: “There's always people in on trial, you've seen us down at training, we've always got people in and the gaffer is always talking to people.

“The board are speaking to us, so that's always trying to happen. But when I look at that performance, are we tweaking stuff? What is it? Does Mahony (Craig Mahon) suddenly get a goal and then he gets four or five, or Chappy (Jordan Chapell) or Tom Shaw or somebody like that? Does that take us on and it all comes together?
