Steve Burr was happy with Jamie McDonagh's contribution on his first appearance for Chester FC .

Sheffield United forward McDonagh replaced James Roberts shortly after the hour mark in the 2-1 reverse at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday .

The 19-year-old, who signed on a month's loan at the end of last week , showed plenty of energy and enthusiasm as he worked hard to fashion himself three shooting chances.

Burr said: "Sometimes it's difficult when you're coming on as a substitute but I thought he looked very lively.

"He was a threat and that's what you want.

"He joined us on Thursday and I felt it was a bit early to stick him straight in but I thought he did quite well when he came on."

McDonagh will be hoping his performance off the bench at The New Lawn will be enough to secure a starting role when Chester welcome Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday, November 10.

Meanwhile, the Blues have held discussions with Oxford United about extending the loan of striker James Roberts, whose initial one-month deal expired following the Forest Green game.

Oxford are second in League Two and manager Michael Appleton is understood to be open to Roberts spending further time at Chester, although an extension won't be finalised until nearer the Kidderminster game.
