Chester FC adopted a watching brief on one of the quietest ends to a transfer window in memory.

There were no ins or outs at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium on deadline day and it was a similar theme across the National League with only a handful of clubs getting deals over the line.

The emergency loan window opens on Tuesday, February 9 and will remain open until March 24 so Chester manager Steve Burr will still be able to strengthen his squad for the end of season run in.

But while the Blues might not have been active on Monday, there were a number of arrivals and departures between the transfer window opening and closing so allow The Chronicle to remind of those players to have entered and exited over the past month:

Incomings

Steven Hewitt

Former Burnley midfielder Steven Hewitt became Chester's first signing of the window when he penned a short-deal.

The 22-year-old came through the ranks with the Clarets and has made two first-team appearances for the Turf Moor club, and had loan spells at Alfreton Town and Southport.

Manchester-born Hewitt made his debut off the bench against Altrincham and started in the defeat to Aldershot Town before scoring in the Cheshire Senior Cup victory over Hyde United.

Ryan Astles

Northwich Victoria defender Ryan Astles arrived on a non-contract basis on January 7 after Chester served seven days' notice of approach for the defender.

The 22-year-old, who was born in Birkenhead, moved to Northwich in the summer after leaving Welsh Premier League club Rhyl.

Astles was given his first outing in the Cheshire Senior Cup win over Hyde United, following that up with an impressive league debut against Southport.

He signed a deal until the end of the season last week and kept his place for the game with Braintree, although won't be involved in the FA Trophy this weekend as he's cup-tied.

Jason Gilchrist

Chester signed striker Jason Gilchrist on a month's loan from Championship club Burnley on January 8.

The 21-year-old, who has still to make his senior debut for the Clarets, spent time on loan with Accrington Stanley at the back end of last season, where he made he featured five times in League Two.

He made his debut for the Blues in the defeat at Aldershot Town and came off the bench in the loss to Braintree Town. He scored as a substitute in the FA Trophy win over Hungerford Town.

The FA Trophy game with FC Halifax Town on Saturday marks the final game of his initial loan period.

Tony Thompson

Liverpool-born goalkeeper Thompson signed a short-term deal with Chester on January 20 after impressing on trial having left left League Two side Morecambe.

The arrival of the 21-year-old, who was previously on the books of Rotherham United and spent time on loan at Southport last season, resulted in Dylan Forth being released.

Thompson made two first-team appearances for Morecambe and has been an unused substitute for the Blues in the games with Southport and Braintree.

Ryan Lloyd

Chester announced on Friday that Port Vale midfielder Ryan Lloyd's loan deal had been extended until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old arrived at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium in late November on a one-month loan and extended that before Christmas for a second month.

Lloyd has made seven appearances to date but missed the defeat to Braintree Town with a rib problem. He could return for the FA Trophy clash with FC Halifax Town.

Nyal Bell

Rochdale forward Nyal Bell linked up with the Blues on an initial one-month's loan at the end of last week.

The 19-year-old impressed in training and his parent club were keen for him to gain further experience with Chester.

Bell signed his first professional contract at Spotland in the summer and has been on loan at Evo-Stik League First Division North side Droylsden.

He was not involved against Braintree but could make his debut in the FA Trophy this weekend with James Alabi cup-tied.

James Alabi

The Blues completed the permanent signing of James Alabi on a deal until the end of the season on Friday.

The 21-year-old, who started his career with Stoke City, moved to Ipswich Town in the summer but departed Portman Road via mutual consent 24 hours earlier.

Alabi was thrown straight into the starting line-up for the defeat at Braintree Town but will be cup-tied for the FA Trophy having played in the competition for Grimsby Town while on loan at Blundell Park earlier this season.

Outgoings

Kane Richards

Out-of-favour winger Kane Richards has joined National League North side Gainsborough Trinity on a month's loan when the window opened.

The 21-year-old, signed from Ilkeston in December 2014, was allowed to leave after failing to hold down a regular spot with the Blues.

He has made a handful of appearances for Gainsborough but Trinity boss Steve Housham has suggested the loan deal won't be extended.

George Thomson

Attacking midfielder George Thomson was sold to FC United of Manchester United on January 16 for an undisclosed fee.

Thomson completed a permanent move to Broadhurst Park after scored five times in an eight-game loan spell with the National League North club.

The 23-year-old moved to Chester in January 2015 from Kings Lynn Town and signed a new 12-month deal in the summer.

He appeared in nine of the opening 12 games of the current campaign but had not featured since the game at Southport on October 13.

Danny Hattersley

FC Halifax Town centre forward Danny Hattersley moved to the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium in late November on a loan deal until January 19.

The 23-year-old made an encouraging start and was a regular in the side but failed to score in eight appearances for the Blues.

Ex-Stockport County and Southport frontman Hattersley was taken off at half-time during the FA Trophy win over Hungerford Town and it was confirmed soon after he had returned to his parent club.

Dylan Forth

Manchester-based goalkeeper Forth signed for Chester on a short-term deal in the summer after leaving Premier League club Aston Villa at the end of last season.

The 19-year-old impressed on trial and was brought in to provide competition for first choice Jon Worsnop.
