Blues legend Elfed Morris will become the tenth member of the Chester FC Hall of Fame this weekend.

Morris will be inducted at the club's home game with Hyde on Saturday in recognition of his achievements in the 1960s and his lifelong affection for the club.

Morris, who died last November aged 71, joined Chester in the 1962-63 season from arch rivals Wrexham.

He was part of the Famous Five forward line in the 1964-65 season, contributing 26 goals to the team’s record-breaking tally of 141.

His total of 69 Football League goals places him fourth in the club's list of all-time scorers and is the highest total for a winger.

After leaving Sealand Road in 1968, he moved Halifax Town and later played for Caernarfon Town, Llandudno and Bethesda.

Nominations for the Hall of Fame are made by the club’s Former Players Association.

Chairman Grenville Millington said: “Elfed is a true Chester legend.

"As well as being a member of the 'Famous Five' he loved football, and he loved entertaining.

"As a young supporter I remember seeing him once play an outrageous one-two off the corner flag – the posts were wooden in those days. He must have practised it in training.

"He always had a soft spot for this club. Whenever we asked him to do anything for the Former Players Association he always said 'yes'.”

Morris started his football career with his hometown club Colwyn Bay. He later managed Seagulls and was also the club’s groundsman for many years.

Members of his family will attend the match on Saturday.

He will join Grenville Millington, Gary Talbot, Daryl Clare, Peter Jackson, Stuart Rimmer, Trevor Storton, Derek Draper, Iain Jenkins and Mike Metcalf in the Chester FC Hall of Fame.
