Pupils from Chester Blue Coat CE Primary School took part in a training session with Chester FC as part of a health roadshow.

The Blues welcomed the children to training at the University of Chester’s Parkgate Road campus with forwards James Alabi and Craig Hobson joining in passing and tackling drills before first-team coach Jon McCarthy delivered a special session for the youngsters.

The training session was part of the West Cheshire Way - a new initiative aimed at improving public health - and coincided with a 10-day roadshow to promote the programme and gather public feedback.

Huw Charles-Jones, chair of NHS West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: "Improving the health and wellbeing of our children and young people and promoting a healthy lifestyle is a cornerstone of the West Cheshire Way’s Starting Well programme.

"This training session is a fantastic way of encouraging local school pupils to forge healthy habits for life.

"The West Cheshire Way is centred around promoting self-care and empowering people of all ages to take the right steps to take more control of their own health and wellbeing – with an emphasis on both prevention and more community-based care."

The public awareness roadshow began on March 22 and ends on March 31 and aims to raise awareness of the West Cheshire Way, which is the vision for how care will be delivered to the people of West Cheshire over the next five to 10 years.

Led by a team of clinicians, managers and patient leaders, it supports more people to access the treatment they need in the community rather than in a hospital setting.

Its pioneering programmes are centred around the key campaign messages of 'Starting Well, Being Well and Ageing Well – with an emphasis on both community-based care and supported self-care.
