It was very much a case of after the Lord Mayor's show for Chester FC on Saturday.

The Blues managed to salvage a point from a forgettable 1-1 home draw with Bromley at a bitterly cold Lookers Vauxhall Stadium thanks to Tom Shaw's second half penalty.

The Tranmere game seven days previous seemed a million miles away as some Blues players struggled to reach the heights of Prenton Park. But a point is a point and here's how they rated.

Alex Lynch – 6/10

With Bromley pressing so high Lynch saw a lot of the ball at his feet but was too wasteful in hoofing it long far too often. A superb save to deny Jordan Higgs at the death, though.

Sam Hughes – 6/10

Some good moments and looked solid enough as Bromley closed down and put the full backs under pressure.

Ryan Astles – 6/10

Won his headers but was another to have the pressure applied by Bromley's high press.

Blaine Hudson – 6/10

Bromley never really threatened on too many occasions going forward but he may feel he could have got in the way of Blair Turgott's strike.

Johnny Hunt – 5/10

Struggled to make an impact and found his time and space limited on the ball.

Craig Mahon – 6/10

Tried to make something happen during the first half but was stymied time and again. His mistake led to the Bromley goal.

Elliott Durrell – 5/10

Wasn't a factor for too long during the match and failed to have an impact going forward as Bromley stifled his threat.

Ryan Lloyd – 5/10

Not his usual self on Saturday and that had a real impact. He gave the ball away too often and could gain a foothold.

Tom Shaw – 7/10

Chester's best player by some distance. He looked to grab the game by the scruff of the neck when he could and hauled the Blues over the line with his cool spot kick.

Kane Richards – 6/10

Improved after the break and was far more dangerous when switched out wide. His tricky run won the penalty for Chester.

James Alabi – 5/10

A chronic lack of service limited Alabi to chasing long, high balls. Wasn't given any room to operate by the visitors.

Substitutes

Wade Joyce (on for Mahon – 66 minutes)

Busy enough as the Blues went for an extra body in midfield.

Jordan Chapell (on for Durrell – 66 minutes)

Looked bright when he came on but really should have won the game late on when put clean through.

Other ratings

Referee: Antony Coggins – 5/10

Got the penalty decision right but not an awful lot more.

Entertainment value – 3/10

Hard to imagine the DVD of this will be flying off the shelves for Christmas but it may turn out to be a handy point later in the campaign. Not one that will live long in the memory, though.

Opposition star man: Blair Turgott – 7/10

The goalscorer was the best player on the pitch and always looked a threat when Bromley went forward.
