Chester FC will be in the hat for the FA Trophy second round draw but they will have to go again against Witton Albion to be sure of their progression after a disappointing 1-1 draw at Wincham Park on Saturday.

Jordan Chapell had given Chester a first-half lead on Saturday but Brad Bauress levelled just after the hour mark for Witton who, in truth, could feel hard done by not to have won it.

It wasn't one of the finest performances from Jon McCarthy's men this season and he will be hoping for better in Tuesday's replay.

Here's how the players rated.

Alex Lynch – 7/10

Made some key stops for the Blues and was alert throughout. He has made the number one spot his own.

Sam Hughes – 6/10

He saved Chester with a goal-line clearance but the Blues were often exposed on the flanks.

Johnny Hunt – 5/10

The ever-reliable Hunt had an off day at Witton as the hosts poured forward and the Blues lost their shape.

Action from Witton v Chester

Ryan Astles – 6/10

Won some important headers and some strong tackles and was fairly solid.

Blaine Hudson – 6/10

As above, Hudson was strong enough in the air but both he and Astles struggled against a pacy Witton attack.

Elliott Durrell – 5/10

Couldn't affect the game as he would like and was a peripheral figure for long periods.

Jordan Chapell – 6/10

Grabbed himself a goal and was in good form in the opening 45 minutes. Faded badly in the second.

Tom Shaw – 5/10

Not the best game from the skipper. Struggled to get a foothold on proceedings in some tough conditions.

Ryan Lloyd – 5/10

The usual high tempo was missing and the conditions didn't help matters. Wasn't a factor for too long and the Blues missed his drive.

James Alabi – 5/10

No service for the in-form striker and he barely touched the ball in the second half. Had some moments in the first half but looked isolated.

Kane Richards – 4/10

One to forget. He tried to stretch the defence when he could but couldn't make any impact in the game and missed good chances that came his way. A silly sending off late in the game that leaves the Blues with selection problems.

Substitutes

Matty Waters (on for Hunt – 75 minutes)

A plus to see the teenager get some minutes under his belt and he stuck to his task during Witton's onslaught late on.

Luke George (on for Durrell – 80 minutes)

A return to action following his lengthy ban. Not much time to have an impact.

Wade Joyce (on for Shaw – 80 minutes)

Brought on to try and add some more steel to the midfield but, like George, couldn't make an impact.

Other ratings

Entertainment value – 4/10

While the Witton fans may have scored this far higher, it wasn't a classic. Error strewn, Chester were nowhere near their best and it was a scrappy affair in awful conditions.

Referee: Steven Rushton – 6/10

Did a fair job. Had no option but to send off Richards and wasn't overly fussy.

Atmosphere – 5/10

It didn't have that cup tie feel to it and it was a pretty sombre affair for much of it. The torrential rain didn't help matters, especially for those watching who were exposed to the elements.
