Blues boss Steve Burr is expected to complete the signing of Guiseley AFC striker Craig Hobson in time for tomorrow's home game with Alfreton Town (3pm).

Forest Green Rovers recalled loan star Matty Taylor on Monday and his absence contributed to a timid and toothless 2-0 defeat at Aldershot Town on Tuesday night.

Burr said bringing in a new forward was a priority but explained his options were severely limited with five loan players already at the club.

Although the capture of 26-year-old Hobson has still be confirmed, Skrill North side Guiseley have announced he has left Nethermoor Park and is on his to the Swansway Chester Stadium.

Burr said: "We are working on getting someone in but we are restricted to loans and non-contract players in terms of who we can bring in.

"We've already got five loans so we are probably looking at a non-contract signing but if you do that then you taking a bit of a gamble because if they haven't got a club there's probably a reason behind it.

"I've got agents ringing me about players all the time but they are players nobody else wants."

Burr signed Hobson from Kendal Town when he was manager of Stalybridge Celtic.

Hobson was a regular goalscorer at Bower Fold and moved to Stockport County in May 2012. He had a loan spell with Lincoln City in the 2012/13 season and joined Guiseley over the summer.

His arrival will boost the Blues depleted forward ranks with Gareth Seddon the only senior striker on the books.

Burr was unimpressed with the flat performance against the Shots, especially after the crucial 1-0 win at Dartford last Friday night, but suspects two long trips down south in quick succession might have taken their toll.

He said: "The players have done brilliantly for us. To go to Tamworth and win, go to Dartford and win and get a point against Nuneaton with only 10 men for 80 minutes is excellent and the team has done great.

"Maybe those two long trips took something out of us because I though we looked dead on our feet and it seemed like there was nothing left in the tank.

"We have got to refresh ourselves and rejuvenate ourselves now for the next game."

Third-placed Alfreton come into the game on the back of a 3-0 win over bottom club Hyde. which condemned the Tigers to relegation.

Highly-rated manager Nicky Law is an old adversary of Burr and has been linked with the vacant managers job at Wrexham.

It would be no surprise to see Burr make changes from the midweek defeat at Aldershot. Attacking midfielder Craig Lindfield came in for Taylor but didn't look comfortable so Jamie Menagh or Brendon Daniels could come into the starting side.

Burr said: "I have known Nicky for a while and have come up against him a number of times over the years. Alfreton have done very well but they are able to pay decent wages so that has helped them.

"The disappointing thing at Aldershot is that we made one change to the team and we didn't perform so we'll need to look at that."
