The National League is challenging the Championship for its reputation as English football's most cut-throat division.

The sackings of Barrow boss Darren Edmondson and Gateshead manager Malcolm Crosby over the weekend mean eight clubs have made a change in the dugout this season

That's the same as the notoriously ruthless Championship - but with FC Halifax Town sacking both Neil Aspin and Darren Kelly, the total number of managerial changes stands one higher at nine.

Chester FC have had only two managers since reforming in 2010 with current boss Steve Burr, who last week celebrated 15 years as a manager , in charge since January 2014.

However, it wasn't so long ago that Blues supporters become well used to seeing managers come and go every few months, although thankfully those days are now in the past.

Here's a round-up of the managerial ins and outs in the National League so far this season, starting with the most recent:

Gateshead

In: To be confirmed

Out: Malcolm Crosby

Crosby was sacked on Sunday despite having only been in the role for five months. Appointed in June, the 61-year-old made a decent start but a run of one win in eight games, which included a 4-1 defeat to bottom side FC Halifax Town at the weekend, spelled the end.

His replacement has not been announced.

Barrow AFC

In: Paul Cox

Out: Darren Edmondson

Darren Edmondson left Holker Street by mutual consent on Sunday following a 3-1 defeat at Dover the previous afternoon. The 44-year-old had been in charge since December 2013 and led them to the National League North title last season but Millionaire owner Paul Casson told him in October he had one month to improve the club's fortunes.

Ex-Mansfield Town and Torquay United manager Paul Cox was confirmed as his successor on Monday.

Southport

In: Dino Maamria

Out: Paul Carden

Ex-Chester City captain Paul Carden parted company with the Sandgrounders by mutual consent on November 16 after a disappointing run of results. Carden had been in charge since January and his final game in charge was a 4-0 defeat at home to Cheltenham Town.

Dino Maamria became the club's seventh manager in less than three years when he was appointed on November 19. The 44-year-old, who had a couple of spells at Southport in his playing career, previously managed Northwich Victoria in 2008.

FC Halifax Town

In: To be confirmed

Out: Darren Kelly

On November 17, Darren Kelly parted company with the club by mutual agreement after just 47 days in charge.

Following his appointment at the start of October, the Shaymen won two of his 10 games in charge in all competitions and conceded 37 goals, shipping seven in a game on two occasions.

Ex-Chester City boss Jim Harvey has been placed in caretaker charge.

Boreham Wood

In: Luke Garrard

Out: Ian Allison

Long-serving manager Ian Allison resigned on October 12 having been unable to balance his work commitments with the club's switch to daytime training.

His assistant Luke Garrard stepped into his shoes two days later although Allison returned to Meadow Park as director of football on November 13.

Eastleigh

In: Chris Todd

Out: Richard Hill

Richard Hill resigned from his post on September 23 after a run of five games without a win, a 5-2 defeat at home to Dover proving the final straw. He had been in the position since September 2012 and guided the club to the Conference South title.

Caretaker boss Chris Todd was confirmed as Hill's permanent successor on October 15 and has won five from seven games in all competitions to date.

Kidderminster Harriers

In: Dave Hockaday

Out: Gary Whild

Gary Whild was relieved of his duties on September 21 after an 11-match winless run. He joined the club in summer 2010 as assistant under Steve Burr and took on the top job in March 2014.

After ex-England keeper Tim Flowers turned down the chance to become head coach, former Leeds United boss Dave Hockaday accepted that role on October 9.

Torquay United

In:Kevin Nicholson

Out: Paul Cox

Paul Cox resigned as manager on September 18 less than three months after taking charge. The former Mansfield Town boss was not being paid a salary with the Gulls having slashed budgets following a takeover.

Kevin Nicholson, who had seven years at Plainmoor as a left-back, was appointed player-manager on September 28.

FC Halifax Town

In: Darren Kelly

Out: Neil Aspin

Neil Aspin was sacked on September 17 after the Shaymen registered just one win from their opening 10 games. He took charge at The Shay in April 2009 and helped the club win promotion back to the top tier of non-league in 2013.

Ex-Oldham Athletic boss Darren Kelly was named as his replacement on October 1. He signed a contract until the end of the season.
