John Rooney has been named in the England C contingency squad for the International Challenge Trophy matches with Turkey and Estonia.

Rooney, 23, did not make the 22-man squad for a training camp this weekend but his selection in the contingency squad confirms he is under consideration for future squads.

Rooney - brother of England and Manchester United captain Wayne - has been an ever-present for the Blues this season, scoring once in his nine appearances.

He began his career with Everton and has had spells with Macclesfield Town, New York Red Bulls, Orlando City, Barnsley and Bury.

Rooney joined the Blues on loan in November and made the move permanent in January, scoring eight times in 28 games last season.

Chester boss Steve Burr is an assistant to England C manager Paul Fairclough, who will oversee the two-day training camp at St George's Park on Sunday and Monday.

England C complete their Challenge Trophy Group A qualification programme with a trip to Turkey, on October 14, before hosting Estonia on November 18.

Grimsby Town winger Jack Mackreth, who had a loan spell with Chester in 2010-11, has been named in the full squad.

Matty Taylor, who scored six times in seven games for the Blues last season, has been included in the contingency squad.
