Steve Burr thinks the growing camaraderie in the dressing room will continue to provide positive results for the Blues.

Burr overhauled his squad in the summer but such swingeing changes often need time, for partnerships to be formed and team-mates to gel.

Twelve weeks into the new season and the signs are good, there is a togetherness in the camp and a sense that momentum is building.

Late winners against Wrexham, Aldershot Town and Alfreton Town, and the response to blowing a two goal lead against Stockport show the team are playing for each other and for the club.

Burr told The Chronicle he was impressed with how quickly his squad had come together and expects that closeness to keep developing.

“I have always prided myself on having a good team spirit around the place and we have certainly got that here,” said Burr.

“That’s only going to keep getting better with good performances and good results.

“I must say I’ve been delighted with how these lads are working with each other and working with us to improve.”

Chester prevailed in a rip-roaring FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Edgeley Park on Saturday to reach the first round for the first time as a fan-owned club.

Burr and supporters would have hoped for a more appealing reward than a trip to Southend United but the manager has welcomed the chance to pit his side against League opposition.

Before then, the Blues have another long trek down south on Saturday to face ambitious Eastleigh (3pm) in the Vanarama Conference.

Michael Kay starts a three-game suspension after being sent off at the weekend and will miss the games with Southend and Macclesfield Town as his ban doesn’t include the Cheshire FA Senior Cup tie at Runcorn Town on Monday (7.45pm).

Burr has doubts over winger Craig Mahon, who turned his ankle in training this week, and goalkeeper Jon Worsnop, who sliced his foot in the shower in a freak accident at home, but hopes both will be fit.

Chris Iwelumo announced his retirement this week and that will free up some room in the budget but the manager might decide to hold back on using those funds for now.

Burr said: “We are without Michael for three games now and that’s disappointing because it was a sending off that was avoidable.

“Matty Brown has been out injured but he he’s got a chance now to make it difficult for Michael to get back in.

“Craig went over on his ankle in training on Tuesday and Jon has stood on a piece of glass at home in the shower so we’re going to have to see how those two are.

“We have had Eastleigh watched over the past couple of weeks and it will be a difficult game.

“It’s quite similar to when we went down to Forest Green and we will go there, look to continue how we have been playing and try to get a result.”
