Steve Burr said he hoped to provide Blues fans with a few more memorable nights following the engrossing 2-1 win over Wrexham.

Ben Heneghan's winner with seconds remaining decided a fantastic match that will live long in the memory and secured his place in Chester folklore.

Blaine Hudson gave Wrexham the lead in the second minute and the Welsh club had enough chances to put the game to bed in a one-sided first half.

Chester managed to hang in there and produced a scintillating second half performance, drawing level with 16 minutes to go through Craig Hobson before Heneghan snatched the win in 94th minute.

Burr said: "It was fantastic. There was a good following from the Wrexham fans and our crowd here are just unbelievable and hopefully we can give them a few more nights like this.

"I like night games and I like the atmosphere that was created and the bigger the crowd the better I think. I love the atmosphere.

"As a player I used to enjoy it and as a manager obviously coming out on top makes it better. There is nothing that beats that.

"I thought it was a great advert for Conference football, a great atmosphere and terrific scenes at the end.

"Obviously when you win it makes it all the more sweet but it was a terrific game of football for both sides."

Wrexham boss Kevin Wilkin reflected on wasted opportunities in his post-match assessment and Burr agreed the contest could have been over but took great pride in the second half turnaround.

"We got off to a terrible start and they could have been two up, maybe three up," said Burr.

"We could have gone under but we didn't and I'm just delighted how we kept trying to play and pass it about.

"I thought second half we were a lot stronger. I thought we did alright up to a point in the first half but second half we just wanted that goal.

"I never settle for a draw but I just thought we were maybe running out of time to get the winner but that's the best time to score isn't it?

"I think Wrexham had a few chances in the first half early on but second half I think there was only one side in it.

"Obviously being biased, I felt we got the deserved win in the end with the way we stuck at it."

Hobson, an unheralded pick-up fast becoming a fans favourite, had a goal ruled out for offside and Rooney struck the post with a trademark free kick before the pair combined for the equaliser on 74 minutes.

Rooney unleashed a shot that looked to be going wide but Hobson raised his leg and his deft flick sent the ball sailing past the stranded Daniel Bachmann.

Wrexham found themselves under pressure in the closing stages but seemed to have held on for a point before right back Heneghan, who had celebrated his 21st birthday only 72 hours before, popped up in the box to steer Kingsley James' deep cross.

Burr said: "When that was disallowed and John hit the post with his free kick, I thought maybe we're just not going to get the rub of the green but we stuck at it and as I say we got our reward in the end.

"It was two great goals, I didn't realise Craig's goal was so good until I saw the rerun of it on the TV. I thought it deflected off him but it was a fantastic finish.

"Both goals were really and it's greet to see my fullback up there at that stage of the game. That's the best time to go in front."

Chester travel to mid-table Grimsby Town on Saturday (3pm) looking to keep their improved run of form going.
