Steve Burr has revealed his excitement at being part of tonight’s televised Anglo-Welsh derby (8pm).

Burr has been involved in derbies before but nothing that matches up to the intense rivalry between Chester and Wrexham.

His first experience of the Anglo-Welsh derby, the goalless draw at the Swansway Chester Stadium in April , has given him a taste for more.

Burr said: “For both sets of supporters it’s something to look forward to, it’s on the TV and I can’t wait.

“Both clubs have got massive and very passionate support, the England-Wales thing adds a bit of spice to it and we want everybody to have a good time with that.”

Wrexham will start as favourites after their impressive 1-0 win at Vanarama Conference leaders Barnet last time out.

Manager Kevin Wilkin, appointed in March after a successful stint at Nuneaton Town, reshaped his squad in the close-season and most of his signings have settled in well.

Wrexham’s form to date has been too inconsistent for them to be considered genuine promotion challengers, but wins at Barnet and Forest Green underline the danger the Welsh club pose and the loan signing of Dan Holman from Colchester United adds further threat.

Chester have struggled for points in a tough start to the season but wins over Braintree Town, Macclesfield Town and Southport suggest this campaign won’t be as disappointing as the last.

Another win tonight would give the Blues some momentum heading towards October, where there looks to be a real opportunity to pick up some more wins.

Burr said: “We’re looking now to put a run together if we can, and we know how difficult it will be against Wrexham, they’ve brought one or two good players in over the summer.”

Wrexham’s scouting team watched the 2-0 win over Southport and the Blues were represented in North London when Wilkin’s side defeated Barnet.

Nothing has been left to chance with three points at stake, and both managers understanding how much tonight’s game means to the fans.

Burr said: “We do our homework as we have done on Wrexham as well, we’ve had them watched.”

“Wrexham are probably like most of the sides that we’ve played already this season, the Torquays and the Wokings, where they can see that we can play.

“It’s on the day and it’s a derby, with a fantastic atmosphere, and hopefully we can get another three points for our fans, who have been absolutely unbelievable all season.”

Chester expect forward Craig Hobson, who limped off in the win over Southport, to be fit for tonight but winger Peter Winn and defenders John Disney and Matty Brown look set to miss out.

Burr has been working on a potential loan move for a new striker but the manager said the deal would depend on him being able to move players out on loan.
