Assuming he comes through training on Thursday without a hitch, Luke George could return for Chester FC this weekend.

The midfielder has missed the last nine league games with a hamstring tear and picked up a troublesome chest infection which slowed his rehabilitation.

It was hoped the 23-year-old would be feature in the Easter fixtures but he suffered a slight reaction at the end of last week and was not risked.

But he has stepped up his recovery this week and will take full part in training on Thursday with manager Steve Bur hopeful the ex-Southport man will be available for the visit of Boreham Wood on Saturday (3pm).

"We're hoping he'll get through a good training and then we'll assess him because last week we were hoping he would be available for the weekend's games but he had a bit of a setback," said Burr, who again expects to be without winger Jordan Chapell and centre-back Ian Sharps.

"We'll see how he is after the session but Jordan Chapell is still going to be missing and Sharpy's struggling with a hamstring but Luke he's been a big miss because he's done well when he's been in the team and he gives us a bit of strength so the sooner we can get him and everyone else back available the better because it makes us stronger."

Chester signed George in the summer from Southport, where he had two successful seasons after moving from Stafford Rangers.

Having started seven of the opening eight games of the campaign, George damaged his thigh in September which kept him out for 11 matches.

He returned at the end of October and featured 15 of the next 16 games before suffering a grade two hamstring tear.

Last week the Liverpudlian said the past few months have been 'most frustrating time' in his career to date.

He said: "I've never experienced anything like this before. I was at Southport for two seasons and played more than 80 games and the only ones I missed with through suspension and before that at Stafford Rangers it was the same.

"It's been difficult but it's a learning curve. I look after myself on and off the pitch but it's one of those things that seems to happen to everyone at some point in their career."
