IT has been billed as ‘the social event of the year’ for Blues fans – and the wait is nearly over for Saturday’s sold-out 125th Anniversary of Chester FC event.

More than 500 fans will cram into Chester Racecourse for a celebration which is expected to raise significant funds for City Fans United, the owners of the resurrected Blues.

A glittering array of items will be put up for auction including a ball signed by both the Liverpool and AC Milan players before their incredible Champions League final in Istanbul in 2005 and a framed David Beckham England shirt signed by the England squad from the same year.

Also going under the hammer will be a host of stunning Blues memorabilia including a 1974-75 replica Chester City shirt and match programmes from the famous League Cup run, the iconic signed photograph of the ‘Famous Five’ – donated by Gary Talbot and as featured in The Chronicle – and a special edition of Chas Sumner’s classic Blues book On the Borderline signed by more than 30 former Chester players and managers such as Ian Rush, Graham Barrow and the late Harry McNally.

Sumner said: “It’s a unique copy because of the names that have signed it, and with people like Harry, who have since died, it makes it even more special.”

Up to 20 Blues legends will be in attendance – and England’s first World Cup match against the USA will be shown on 4m HD screens.

CFU press officer Jeff Banks, who would like to thank all those who have donated items for auction, said: “It’s a privilege to be in a position to organise the event because at one stage it may have been the final part of the club’s history, but thankfully it’s the start of a new era.”

See www.chesterchronicle.co.uk for the list of items up for auction. You can still bid for any of the items at auction@cityfansunited.com by 11am on Saturday.
