Welsh Premier League side Gap Connah's Quay have appointed ex-Chester FC defender Kevin McIntyre as player-coach.

Liverpool-born McIntyre was part of the Chester City team that won the Football Conference in 2004, making over 90 appearances for the club after signing from Doncaster Rovers.

Following spells with Macclesfield Town, Shrewsbury Town, Accrington Stanley and Rochdale, Neil Young brought him back to Chester in 2013 and featured another 35 times.

The 37-year-old made the switch to Nomads last summer and has gone on to make 59 appearances, winning the coaches' player of the year award for 2014-15.

McIntyre, who holds the Uefa B Licence, has now been added to the coaching ranks at Deeside Stadium.

New director of football Andy Morrison, the former Airbus UK Broughton assistant, is thrilled to have him as part of his inner circle.

Morrison said: "I’m absolutely delighted to have Kevin as part of our coaching team. The standards he shows in the way he trains and his professionalism will make his transition from player to coach an easy one."

McIntyre, who started out at Tranmere Rovers, amassed more than 400 games in the Football League during his career.
