Former Chester City chairman and owner Stephen Vaughan is involved in football again.

The ex-Blues chief was photographed with members of the Cheshire-based consortium which took control of Welsh Premier League team Bangor City yesterday (June 7).

Liverpool businessman Vaughan, who oversaw a troubled spell at Chester which ultimately led to the club being liquidated in 2010, is understood to be sponsoring Bangor's shirts next season.

Vaughan, banned from acting as a company director for 11 years in 2009 for an alleged VAT fraud, attended a press conference yesterday along with Bangor chairman Ivor Jenkins, new president Gordon Craig, finance director Andy Ewing, commercial director James Lees and club accountant Andy Haslam.

The club's new-look board stated their desire to return the Nantporth side to their Welsh Premier League heyday and secure European qualification in the coming seasons off the back of on-field investment.

Jenkins said: "Our ultimate aim is to challenge the leading clubs over the coming seasons for the Welsh Premier League title and UEFA Champions League football.

"We would like to work closely with the supporters' association and like to invite their chairman on to the newly structured board.”

New president Craig is believed to be an associate of Vaughan, having served as a director of Media Pro Sports Limited, a company that was behind a bid to buy Scottish side Queen of the South in 2013. Vaughan was linked to the company due to his association with the bid's frontman, Jonathan Hope.

Vaughan purchased Maltese club Floriana in 2012 but sold his interest in them two years later.
