Jon McCarthy doesn't expect Chester FC to make any new signings before the midnight transfer deadline.

Although transfers between clubs will not be permitted once the window has closed, clubs in the Vanarama Conference will still be able to sign free agents and can bring in loans from September 8.

Manager Steve Burr last week loaned Jadan Hall from Premier League club Burnley and added ex-Cheltenham Town keeper Connor Roberts, following on from the signing of former Stoke City defender Ben Heneghan.

First team coach McCarthy confirmed there was still some room in the budget but the Blues are unlikely to be in the market for permanent transfers, meaning the deadline has less significance.

"There's a little bit of money there, it's not loads, but we think it's unlikely we'll get anything done," said McCarthy.

"We'd always like some more money, every single manager in the country wants some more money for players, but the board are good with us.

"They've told us the budget and they work to see if there's little bits of stuff to do, some of the stuff was frustrating and we hit some blockages on some stuff but that's going be us, always trying to push and improve things on the pitch and see if we can find ways to make things happen.

"We've been able to bring in Jadan and do something with Ben, which on his performance at Gateshead looks like it might be decent business."
