Chester FC midfielder Tom Shaw believes an FA Trophy victory can be the catalyst for improved league form.

The Blues, who host Hungerford Town in the second round on Saturday (3pm), have fallen to 16th in the National League after taking six points from the last 27 available.

Shaw, who found himself on the bench for the 3-1 loss at Aldershot Town, maintains the squad has talent but for whatever reason has been unable to transfer that onto the pitch.

Shaw said: "Without a doubt the squad is good enough to put a run together. I'm sure every player has said it all season but we've got some very talented players in the squad but we just need to find the right formula, whatever it might be to get us to click into place.

"We've had little runs here and there but nothing of any substance and we need to find whatever it is to get us going in the right direction and hopefully we can start this week against Hungerford in the FA Trophy.

How will the Blues get on against Hungerford Town?

"I think it can benefit our league form. If we can put a good performance in then the results should follow and that could really kick start us, give the squad a lift and give the whole club a lift so we've got to work hard in our preparation for the game."
