Chester FC have been linked with former Wrexham and Tamworth attacking midfielder Elliott Durrell.

Reports in the Shropshire Star claim the Blues are one of several clubs to have spoken to the 26-year-old along with National League North sides AFC Telford United and Boston United.

Shrewsbury-based Durrell is a free agent after leaving Tamworth at the end of last season, finishing as the leading scorer for the Lambs with 13 league goals.

His move to Tamworth last summer reunited him with Andy Morrell, who signed for Wrexham from Hednesford Town for an undisclosed fee in January 2014.

Telford management duo Rob Smith and Larry Chambers worked with Durrell during his six-year stint at Hednesford and have offered him a deal to take him to New Bucks Head, although expect stiff competition for his signature.

Smith told the Shropshire Star: "The last I heard from Elliott was he was in talks with a Conference Premier club but I don’t know if he’s got fixed up. I would always take him if there was a chance because he did so well for me at Hednesford and as a player, I admire him quite a lot.

"But from my discussions with him, he was still looking at national level and I’d be surprised if he didn’t have offers to play at that level.

"Whether that suits him or not I don’t know because he’s become a father again so he has to weigh everything up.

"He knows I’d be interested in signing him if he wanted to come our way. It’s certainly local for him but as I say I haven’t spoken to Elliott and I’d imagine he’d have the chance of National Premier football."

Last week Chester manager Jon McCarthy confirmed he had offered deals to two experienced defenders and said his priority was getting his back-four in place before turning his attentions to the rest of his squad ahead of pre-season starting on June 27.
