SATURDAY, February 6, 2010, will forever be etched in the mind of Blues supporters.

That was the date on which Chester City played their final game.

Their opponents on the day? None other than Ebbsfleet United, who this weekend stand in the way of Chester FC – reformed and thriving under the ownership of its fans – from taking another step closer to Wembley.

Saturday’s FA Trophy tie at Stonebridge Road will be the first time the clubs have met since that fateful afternoon at an almost deserted Deva Stadium.

A crowd containing just 388 home supporters watched a Chester side, featuring current Blues goalkeeper John Danby, go down to a 2-1 defeat.
The match also proved to be significant in Ebbsfleet’s history.

The result was later expunged after City’s expulsion from the Blue Square Premier – and the loss of three points contributed to the Kent outfit’s relegation at the end of the campaign.

Ebbsfleet returned to non-league football’s top division last season after winning the Blue Square South play-offs.
