Jon McCarthy reckons the game with Macclesfield Town gives the Blues the chance to put things right after two depressing home defeats.

Encouragement can be gleaned from performances on the road but there have been few positives at the Swansway Chester Stadium, where Barnet and then FC Halifax Town have dished out one-sided beatings.

Those clubs are first and second in the Vanarama Conference but even so supporters are right to have expected better, something first team coach McCarthy accepts.

He said: "Those games have been devastating for us to have to stand out there and face that.

"It was two decent teams, and they've gone to prove that, but we were nowhere near the performances that we showed on the road so that's hard.

"I think people that have come and watched us away can actually see that theres something going on and there's some development, some evolution and some signs of progress and some makings of a team there."

After a testing start to the season, the Blues now move into a packed September with seven games, including four at home starting with the all-Cheshire clash with the Silkmen on Saturday (3pm).

McCarthy said: "It's a big month, we know that and the targets that we set for the first month had that in mind.

"We've come to every game to win but we're being realistic about stuff and where we are as a club but believe us the targets we've set for this month are significant and we expect to pick up points this month.

"That's the pressure we put on people and ourselves, by the end of September we expect to be in a good position within this table and not in the position we were in last year."
