Canadian-born goalkeeper Jonathan Viscosi has completed his move to Chester FC.

Viscosi, 23, was recommended to manager Steve Burr, who needed a replacement for Connor Roberts, who has joined Bangor City.

Viscosi has been on the books of Brackley Town, Carlton Town and Tiverton Town, and has previously attracted the attention of Football League clubs including AFC Wimbledon, Oldham Athletic and Carlisle United.

He only arrived in the UK on January 6 after making the 2,700 mile trip from his hometown Ottawa and the 6ft 2ins shot-stopper signed for Chester after just three training sessions.

Viscosi, who lined up against the Blues pre-season while on trial at Tranmere Rovers, said he was pleased to join the Vanarama Conference club.

He said: "I am really pleased to join Chester. They have a decent set-up, a solid fan-base, and have ambitious plans to return to the Football League, which is my goal too.

"During my time in the UK, and playing in the United States, I have been an avid follower of football scene in the north west, and it feels great to have a genuine opportunity to be part of it and meet some great people in the process.

"They say that first impressions count, which is why I was keen to sign for Chester. Hopefully I can play my part to help the club regain its Football League status, which it deserves."

Prior to returning to the UK,  Viscosi was offered a deal at Hungarian Premier League side Kaposvári Rákóczi.

In 2013, he represented Canada at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.  He also spent four years playing in the United States, where he captained the University of Buffalo in NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division One.
