Chester FC boss Steve Burr was delighted with his side's efforts as they registered a memorable 3-2 derby win over Wrexham on Saturday.

Goals from John Rooney, Tom Shaw and Kane Richards ensured the Blues claimed a precious three points from their near neighbours, who netted through a Dominic Vose penalty and an injury time strike from captain Connor Jennings.

Burr said: “It’s always nice to beat your local rivals but I was more pleased that we got back to winning ways, but it is a great win for us.

“It was quite a pulsating game and what we worked on leading up to the game worked for us.

“I was pleased for the supporters, they were fantastic again for us.

“We’ve took some criticism over the last couple of weeks losing games, as you do, but you have to accept that. But today (Saturday) I know that we would have sent a few people home happy.”

Burr added: “I couldn’t see where the penalty came from, so we were disappointed with that. But it was nice for once to get a bit of a cushion for a change.“I thought the lads worked their socks off and showed how much it meant to them.

“I was delighted for Kane Richards to get his first goal and obviously Tom Shaw got himself on the scoresheet too with a well-worked goal.

“I thought James Roberts did really well. I think he’s a threat and people can see he can be a big player for us.”

Chester travel to Holker Street on Tuesday (7.45pm) for a league clash at Barrow AFC.
