Six games unbeaten, six clean sheets and 10th place in the National League has seen the positivity return at Chester FC.

The early-season struggles that were blighted by defensive mistakes have been long forgotten and Blues fans are now, for the first time in a long time, fixing their gaze to those above them in the table rather than to the teams below.

Being five places above rivals Wrexham and five points off the play-off places has also helped bring the good vibes back to the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium for fans but Chester boss Jon McCarthy, while delighted with the current run of form, isn't getting too carried away and knows all too well what to expect when things don't go to plan.

"There will be no complacency from us because I remember how it felt going into the Guiseley game and the Braintree game," said the Chester boss.

"It's massive credit to them going back to those games and how important they were for us.

"It is great and I love it for the players, the fans, the volunteers, the board and the people who are here on a day-to-day basis. It has been a great few weeks for everybody and they really deserved it.

"The players, their work ethic, means they have deserved their luck and they have deserved everything that has happened but I know how quickly it can change.

"We'll talk to them and try and get them in the right place so that they can go out and try and get another three points this weekend (at home to Torquay United).

"I get some stuff on Twitter sometimes and I keep it so that I can remind myself of how quickly things can change and so I don't get too carried away.

"I've had stuff saying that 'at least we have only got a year of this nugget', stuff like that. It is motivation and it brings me back down to earth.

"There have been plenty of calls of 'joke' and 'rubbish' so I know how it can change and I keep some things like that so I don't get too carried away when we are winning games and everyone is happy. That's football, though."

The Blues have been superb of late.

Their last defeat in the Vanarama National League came against high-flying Forest Green on September 3 and since then they have registered four wins in six games, including a stunning 5-0 rout of Dover Athletic last weekend.

But McCarthy hasn't forgotten the bad times and the defeats to the likes of Maidstone United, Gateshead and Woking earlier in the campaign.

The Blues boss knows how quickly things can change but admitted there is a good feeling at the club and expressed his delight at the manner of Tuesday night's 1-0 win at North Ferriby United.

"It was just us in here when we lost to Maidstone and people weren't happy," he said.

"It was just us in the changing room when we went away to Gateshead and lost at Woking and fans were rightfully disappointed.

"It was just us at the end against North Ferriby and it was great to be able to go over and thank the fans who travelled that long journey to come and see us on a Tuesday night. We were able to have the music on in the changing room and see the smiles on the faces.

"I remember how good it was to do that as a player. We enjoyed that win just as much as we did the 5-0 win against Dover. You have to enjoy moments like that and hopefully we can have a few more, but we won't be getting ahead of ourselves."
