THE Blues shook off the ring rust with a behind-closed-doors clash against lower-league Cammell Laird on Tuesday night.

Chester FC ran out 4-2 winners thanks to an Antoni Sarcevic double, an Alex Brown strike and an own goal.

Neil Young reported no fresh injuries concerns after what was his side’s first match in 10 days.

Of equal pleasure to the Blues boss was the ‘excellent’ state of the Exacta Stadium surface.

The pitch has coped well with the drop in temperatures.

There is still a chance, however, the club’s protective frost sheets will be laid down before Saturday’s home game against Stafford Rangers (3pm).

The big freeze put paid to Chester’s top-of-the-table tussle at Chorley last Saturday.

But the Blues players were not given the day off.

Instead they headed over to Total Fitness on Liverpool Road for a gruelling training session.

Young said: “They had a tough session and I know some of them were struggling to move come Sunday morning.

“We’ve got a really good link-up with Total Fitness. They give us full access to the gym, which we really appreciate.

“It’s a good example of the links we have with the community.”

The all-ticket Chorley match has been rearranged for Saturday, March 10. A kick-off time has not yet been set.

All tickets purchased for last Saturday’s original game remain valid.

Chester’s postponed trip to North Ferriby United will now take place on Tuesday, March 27 (7.45pm).
