THRIVING fan-owned club Chester FC has appointed its third full-time employee.

Lifelong supporter Carol Bennett has been named as the club’s volunteer learning co-ordinator and will work alongside chief executive Pat Cluskey and community fundraising officer Ann Wiggins.

Carol’s role will be to improve and increase the level of volunteering at the Exacta Stadium and provide support and development opportunities for those who already help the club in their spare time.

Chester FC has been able to fund the position after winning a £65,000 grant from the government’s new Adult and Community Learning Fund. The club was one of 56 successful bidders from a total of 2,465 applications.

Chester FC director David Evans, the driving force behind the bid, said: “Carol was an outstanding candidate in a very strong field. We are delighted that she is on board.

“She brings the dual benefits of being a lifelong fan of the club and a great track record of working with volunteers to great effect.

“Volunteering lies at the heart of the club’s ethos – we have only just begun our journey to realise the full potential of this club on the field and off the field in the community.

“Carol will be invaluable in helping us reach the next level.”

Carol will be seconded from her current role at West Cheshire College until March 31, 2012, although it is hoped that date will be extended.
