Chester FC have helped launch Big Yellow Chester's Christmas 2015 Toy Appeal, which aims to put smiles on the faces of underprivileged children and families on Christmas Day.

Blues boss Steve Burr and his squad teamed up with sponsors Big Yellow Self Storage to promote the appeal, which is now in its 10th year.

Fans are being encouraged to drop gifts off at the club during the lead up to Christmas and the National League game with Torquay United on December 19 has been designated as 'bring a gift' day.

Big Yellow are appealing to The Chronicle readers, the public and businesses to pick up an extra children's present while Christmas shopping and donate it to the appeal.

Last Christmas the Blues squad visited the children's ward at the Countess of Chester Hospital to distribute gifts donated to the appeal.

Jeff Banks, one of the founding directors of the fan-owned club, works as a business development manager for Big Yellow.

He said: "We want to do all we can to help local children and families this Christmas. The amount of donated gifts we received in 2014 was incredible and the various charities and children that benefited were delighted to receive the presents.

"With the help of the Chester community and its local businesses, we want to ensure the children of struggling families have presents to open on Christmas Day.

"Last year’s donations really made a difference locally and we hope to have even more this year."

Blues assistant manager Jon McCarthy, who is chief executive of the club's community trust, said: "Chester FC Community Trust and its main sponsors MBNA and the Football Conference Trust are delighted to be working with everybody to support the Big Yellow 2015 Christmas Toy Appeal.

"Chester FC have provided a significant number of free tickets for schoolchildren at the home fixture on December 19 and we will be inviting the children to bring a toy to donate to families less fortunate than themselves at this magical time of the year."

Donations can be dropped off at Big Yellow on Sealand Road during office hours and there is a 'donation station' at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium.
