Chester FC have confirmed the signing of defender Blaine Hudson on a 12-month contract.

The 24-year-old was a free agent after leaving cross-border rivals Wrexham last month following two seasons at the Racecourse Ground.

Hudson is the first new face to check in to the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium this summer and will be viewed as a replacement for out-of-contract Ben Heneghan, who is expected to announce a move to a Football League club soon.

He will be teamed with Ryan Astles, who signed a new one-year deal after making 16 appearances following his mid-season arrival from Northwich Victoria, at the heart of a new-look Blues defence.

There could be further arrivals this week with Chester boss Jon McCarthy in talks with two defenders released from Championship clubs, an experienced left-back and an attacking midfielder.

LOOK: Blaine Hudson's career in football

Born in Gorleston in Norfolk, Hudson was on the books of Norwich City as a schoolboy before moving to Cambridge United in June 2008.

He featured 28 times in four seasons at the Abbey Stadium, spending time on loan with Thurrock and Billericay Town.

Hudson signed for Welling United on a season-long loan for 2013/14, making 38 appearances as the Wings finished in mid-table, including two impressive performances in wins against Chester.

Cambridge released Hudson in summer 2014 after gaining promotion to the Football League and he signed for Wrexham under Kevin Wilkin.

The 6ft 4ins scored three goals in 38 games during his first season at the Racecourse, including against the Blues in Chester's famous 2-1 win in September 2014.

Hudson made a further 38 appearances last season as the Dragons finished eighth but was one of 16 players released by Gary Mills at the start of last month.
