Chester FC fans are paying more for season tickets than supporters of some Championship clubs.

That's according to figures published as part of the BBC Price of Football study.

The Blues' cheapest season ticket is £255, the average price for a National League side.

However, that's more expensive than the cheapest season tickets at four Championship sides - Birmingham City (£230), Blackburn (£246), Charlton (£175) and Reading (£135).

Chester's cheapest season ticket is also only around £40 less expensive than the cheapest Manchester City and Stoke City season tickets.

Overall, however, the cost of a match-day at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium compares favourably to other teams in the National League. The price of pies, programmes and a half-time cuppa is cheaper than many of their rivals'.

More than 700 tickets up and down England's top five divisions were analysed as part of the study, with 70% seeing a price freeze or reduction for the 2015-16 season.

The costs of tickets quoted in the study are for the categories that are registered with the league and do not include individual or one-off offers. They also are reflective of prices that would be paid on the day as opposed to in advance.

Season ticket prices refer to the cheapest and most expensive tickets including early-bird offers.

Shirt prices are the prices quoted by official club shops rather than other retailers.
