Carl Macauley feels the Blues must look to control the game at Grimsby Town on Saturday (3.07pm).

Promotion-chasing Grimsby occupy third place in the league and Paul Hurst's side will be short-priced favourites for the match.

Assistant manager Macauley acknowledges the Mariners will be tough to beat but insists the Blues are not without hope.

Chester have taken points off every team in the top six this season including a 0-0 home draw with Grimsby back in September.

Wins over Alfreton Town and FC Halifax Town, and draws with leaders Luton Town, Cambridge United and Gateshead illustrate the side's capabilities.

Macauley said: "We have got to set up in every game that we play from now on the same: that's to go there and control the game and try and get three points."

Ex-Vauxhall Motors boss Macauley, 43, said the 3-2 home win over Hyde on Saturday had helped lift the gloom of the disappointing 2-0 loss at Welling United.

"I think every game from now on will be really difficult but the win puts us in a good position to build on the confidence that we've got," he said.

Matty Brown, on loan from League Two side Chesterfield, will miss the next three games through suspension after being sent off for throwing the ball against the Tigers.

Luke Ashworth and Andy Griffin, who both joined before the transfer window closed, are in contention for starting roles this weekend.

Macauley said: "I think it was important that the gaffer went out and got those signings and it shows the importance of having that big squad now, especially with Matty getting suspended."

Prior to the win over Hyde, Burr set his side the goal of three victories from the final five games and Macauley believes the Blues remain on the right track.

"I'm sure the gaffer will have a target and I'm sure he'll be saying that if we win two games out of the next four then that could keep us up," he said.
