Lincoln City’s attitude towards the match officials in last weekend’s game ‘disappointed’ the Chester FC management team.

Appeals for referee Dean Treleaven to dismiss Ben Heneghan for an early foul resulted in a yellow card, one of six bookings in a game that was not particularly bad tempered.

Blues manager Steve Burr and assistant Jon McCarthy were unimpressed with those actions, and were involved in a number of exchanges during the match, which ended in a 1-0 win for Chester thanks to a goal from Sean McConville.

McCarthy said: “Lincoln’s bench were really negative and we were disappointed at that and we told them so

“It’s not our place to criticise them because they’d been on a great run at home but they wanted to get our players booked and that’s something we don’t do.

“Ben Heneghan got booked and they wanted him sent-off, and I think it backfired on them because the next few yellow cards were for them.

“We don’t scream and shout at referees, and we don’t want to get involved in that but if we think it’s happening we’ll say something and fight our corner.

“Michael Kay and Ben Tomlinson had a coming together near the end and it could have just been a word with them both instead of a yellow card but it happens and maybe we’ve got to be a little bit better at not getting into it.”

Kay's booking took him to 10 for the season and means the defender will miss the next two matches.

Chester entertain Eastleigh on Saturday (3pm) and McCarthy thinks the team can improve on the performance at Sincil Bank having had to wait two weeks for a game.

“We had a good run so we almost didn’t want that break and I don’t think we quite picked up where we left off because there were elements that weren’t quite right," said McCarthy.

“It was always going to a tough game with not much space because of what we did to Lincoln at home and they were very direct with a lot of really long balls.

“I think our wingers came off the pitch a little bit disappointed but I wasn’t because they worked for the team and we’ve got four threats now.

“If you shut down one, we’ll use the other, if you close down both wingers, we’ll go through the middle and that’s where our goal came from.

“I think that’s they key for us. It’s working and the players understand that."
