New arrivals Wayne Riley and John Disney have what it takes to succeed in the Conference Premier, according to Airbus UK Broughton director of football Andy Preece.

Riley and Disney played under Preece in the Northwich Victoria side which finished second to the Blues in the Evo-Stik Premier Division in 2012.

That team also included ex-Chester defender Dominic Collins and Southport left-back David Fitzpatrick, now an England C international, and Preece believes ‘Wayno and Dis’ will handle the step up after signing from Conference North title challengers Hednesford.

Preece said: “Wayno and Dis are both more than capable of playing in the Conference and they’re good signings. They’re both great lads and it’s great to see them getting a chance.”

Riley scored the winner when Vics beat Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup first round in 2009, and finished as top scorer in his one season at Airbus.

Disney is  an attacking right-back  and was named manager’s player of the year at Keys Park last term.

Preece said: “Wayno has been waiting for an opportunity to show he can play at that level for a long time and it’s up to him now to prove he can. He’s more than capable of getting double figures in terms of goals and he’s got the ability to succeed.

“Dis is a really good full-back and he’s still only young, so he’ll improve as well.”
