An FA Cup run that has provided plenty for Chester FC to cheer came to end on Tuesday night.

Barnsley ultimately proved too strong for the Blues and ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in front of 3,534 fans at the Swansway Chester Stadium.

Chester fell short of their performance in the first meeting at Oakwell on December 7 but that was largely down to a much improved showing from the Tykes.

Kane Hemmings gave them the lead on 16 minutes and two Dale Jennings efforts after the break, his second a goal of real quality, sent the League One club into the third round.

Chester struggled to break down a solid defence but the Blues have done themselves proud in the FA Cup and the financial gains will enable Steve Burr to strengthen his squad in January.
